Several years ago, the old Texan Theater was gifted to the City of Athens. What followed was an extensive remodeling of the original site and reopening of the Texan Theater as a Landmark Venue.

Today, the City of Athens Cultural Resources Commission oversees the venue and works to offer a variety of entertaining events for all to enjoy. Their goal - to always provide fun activities and events for citizens and guests to Athens to enjoy.

For more information on upcoming events, please visit:

Get connected with a meetings of groups that interest you, or attend and help with events hosted by local non-profits. Your attendance is ALWAYS welcomed and appreciated!

The Labor of Love efforts benefit the entire county.  As needs are discovered, volunteers from this organization assist in rebuilding homes, perform general home repairs such as plumbing and electrical, or whatever may be required to make the home safer and functional.

YOUR help is needed as a Labor of Love volunteer! If you have a love of woodworking and a few free hours, special assistance is needed as a Site Coordinator. This is an ongoing role that helps to pull all the "parts" together to make each job happen. Click HERE to learn more about the Labor of Love.

In 2020, the Henderson County Clint W. Murchison Memorial Library will celebrate its 100th Birthday!

In celebration, the Library will host several special events throughout 2020.

On March 2, Read Across America Day, Nancy Churnin, will be visiting Athens and reading her book The William Hoy Story: How a Deaf Baseball Player Changed the Game to AISD students.

On April 17, Books in Bloom will once again welcome Kathleen Kent to discuss her latest book, The Burn.

In October, Steve Harrigan, novelist, journalist, and screenwriter, will be sharing his insights about writing at the Texan.

Other events throughout the year include a big birthday bash in summer and an overdue fine forgiveness program which will collect canned goods for the food pantry.

This month, we celebrate the work being done on behalf of children by C.A.S.A. of Trinity Valley, recently celebrating their 25th year in the county.

You can be a part of the solution. Your help is needed to bring hope and confidence to the children in care who are without the benefit of a CASA volunteer.

Volunteers undergo specialized training and more volunteers are needed each day!

First and foremost, this website was created to help citizens of Athens connect with each other and sometimes, that means we'll be offering insights into local events, issues, and more.
